Health Benefits of Donating Blood

Blood Donation

Donating blood is an act that can save a life. Knowing this might be enough to donate blood once in awhile but did you know? There are actually health benefits out of this kind and generous act of giving.

•    Reducing blood through donation lowers the iron level in our body and reduces the risk of heart disease. Excessive iron can increase the chance of heart disease as it accelerates the oxidation of cholesterol in our body and increase the damage in the arteries that leads to cardiovascular disease.

•    It reduces the number of red blood cells in our body and the bone marrow replenishes the lost cells giving us the feeling of freshness as it increased the production of new of blood cells.

•    Free health check up. Donors will be screened to know if they qualify to donate or not. Blood pressure, pulse, weight and iron levels will be checked.

After donating blood, you’ll feel weak but worry not, they’ll give you free cookies and juice to help you recover in awhile. Avoiding any intense physical activity for six to eight hours is required.

The needs for blood donors are increasing as millions of people were diagnosed with cancer each year and many are dealing with life-threatening disease. Here are some of patients that you can save:

•    Premature infants
•    Heart surgery patients
•    Organ transplant recipients
•    Individuals fighting cancer, leukemia and other blood disorders

So why not share yours and make an appointment now?

Shifting Career: Things to Ponder on

Are you thinking of shifting to a new career?

Is it really the career that needs some changing or your way of living?

It might be that you are just bored with what you are doing right now and have lost the motivation to work. You might need to get out of your daily routine and take a break once in awhile. There might also be some entities that are making you feel miserable and terrified that made you want to give up with what you have. You may also be feeling that there is no challenge and you can’t find improvement for yourself.

Do not confuse changing jobs with changing careers. If you have felt the things I’ve mentioned on the latter part, it must be that it’s the job that you’d like to change and not the career itself.

If it’s passion that made you enter the path from the very beginning, it is better to think through this thoroughly. You had spent a large amount of time thru studying to fit in and do well plus the money you invested with your study.

So if it’s just the job you’d like to change, think of the related field in which you can showcase the skills and knowledge you had from your previous job and the one that of course would be challenging enough for you. A good example of what I’m talking about :

If you are a pharmacy technician and felt that you want to level up, you may want to become a Pharmacist, still in the same industry, just a different job and responsibility.

On the other hand, if you’ve started your career half heartedly because you were force by your parents or by an impulsive decision, shifting may be the solution for you to feel the real meaning of success.

If that is the case, ask yourself the following question:
Are you ready to start over again?
Is this the field that you know you’ll make you feel successful and fulfilled?
Is this really the career you’ll be passionate about?
Have you made a realistic assessment of your ability and skills for the new path you’d like to take?

Another factor that you’ll have to think about is, are you prepared financially for this shifting of career?
You won’t go back from scratch, yes, but of course you’ll have  to undergo formal training and stuffs to start again in the field you’d like to take.  To survive, you’ll have to have a financial plan especially if you have a family of your own and children that you have to send to school.
You are probably old enough to make important decisions like this but if you are still uncertain, seek help from your partner, close friends or your parents.
Good luck!

Guide in Choosing a Career after High School

Browsing Yahoo! Answers, I noticed that there are many teenagers feeling troubled because they don’t know what career they should take after High School.
Most of them want a career that will give them high salary… who does not want that? But later in life, one would actually seek for something that will make them feel happy and fulfilled so it really is important to consider several things before entering a certain career path.
Evaluate and ask this question to yourself:
  • ·         What are the things that you like and you enjoy doing?
  • ·         What kind of environment you’d like to work at?
  • ·         What is it that you think you’ll be passionate at for the long run?

Most of these students felt like they not capable of something because they thought that they don’t have the skills.
Sometimes, though you finally know your interest and passion, negative thoughts might enter your mind. Like “I know what my interests are but I feel like I won’t earn good from them” Or “ I know that I want to work in healthcare industry and help people, but I don’t know if I can do this because I might not have the necessary skills”

A tip would be, do not think of what you cannot do and focus instead on developing skills you need and enhance them.

If you are one of the uncertain and think that you don’t have the necessary skills to succeed in the career you like, worry not! The role of school/institution is to train and educate us to prepare for the future by nourishing and building up one’s skills and ability.

I stumbled upon several resources that offer professional help in choosing a career. One is from Meditec.com. They have this career guide form that you have to fill up and a representative will contact and offers you help. They specialized in Healthcare  and Business education. If that is the industry you’d like to enter, that site may give you a good idea of what are the courses that may fit you.

Ways to become a good leader

Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions. - Harold S. Geenen

In every successful company that stands the test of time, there will always be those good leaders that keep everyone working hard to achieve goals and stay loyal to their employer.
It is from a great leader that makes a company stand tall through  time and stood still and growing within the competitive industry. These Leaders had gone thru several business management trainings  to develop their competency and ability to lead a team.

You can be like them too! It only takes practice and discipline aside from formal training. Here are some useful tips that cam help you present yourself as a good one!

  •   Firm and Fair - You may have thought that to have a good image to your people, you've got to accommodate their needs whenever they please. It's good to know that people can turn on you but some tend to take advantage of it. So, before they become accustom to it, make sure to always imply on the company rules and standards but still compassionate enough to be willing to be flexible in extreme cases.

  • Honesty and Trust- It is the responsibility of the Leader to become transparent and open to their colleagues. It's also important to take time to know each of your team member to build a good relationship with them
  •  Inspiration and Motivation - Show your conviction to the mission and vision of the company. When people see how you work according to the mission and vision of the firm, they will be inspired and they'll see you as a good Role Model to follow.
  • Get feedback - Know how your people perceive you and your way of leading them. Ask if there's any negative things they find on you-- in a comfortable and not so formal way. Avoid being defensive when you’re hearing negative feedback learn how to improve yourself through them instead
